Narcolaptic is a skatepunk band from Hamburg .

history

The name Narcolaptic was derived from the English word Narcoleptic , whereby the band name is written with two "A" instead of an "E". Narcolepsy is the medical name for "sleeping sickness", although the band name is only indirectly related to the actual illness. Rather, it should describe the condition similar to a kind of delirium .

According to their own statement, the band plays music with influences from punk , grunge , ska , alternative rock , hardcore and metal . Narcolaptic called their first demo Hardcorepop for fun . The group's first concert took place in the Rote Flora cultural center in Hamburg . Further appearances soon followed. Since its inception, Narcolaptic have played over 350 concerts throughout Germany and beyond, including with bands such as Talco , Schmutzki , Götz Widmann , Muff Potter , TV Smith and many more.

After the first demo productions came the first self-produced album in 2009. Influenced by bands like NOFX , The Flatliners , Nirvana , Sublime , Rise Against , themes from life, as well as fun, irony, politics and everyday constraints are processed in the mainly English songs.

In October 2010 and March 2014 Narcolaptic toured Indonesia together with local punk bands like Bunga Hitam . On their first visit they played 13 concerts on the island of Java .

At the end of February 2016, the second album Hypocretin was released . The title of the album is the name of a hormone that influences the sleep-wake rhythm .

In March 2016, the band toured across Thailand , Malaysia , Singapore and Indonesia with the album . The group set a second record in Southeast Asia .

On December 28, 2016, the documentary Komunitas (Gemeinschaft / Community) was presented to the public for the first time at a sold out screening in the 3001 cinema in Hamburg. The film is about the third and so far longest journey by the band Narcolaptic across Southeast Asia. After that, the film was revised again in some places and shown in various German cinemas between mid-2017 and the beginning of 2018. In March 2019, Komunitas was published in Germany and Austria via Prime Video .

Projects

From the beginning, Narcolaptic played many benefit concerts for projects such as skate-aid , Kein Bock auf Nazis , Viva con Agua and many more.

Since December 2010 Marlon has also been playing drums in the ska-punk band Rantanplan .

In 2011 Don released the first part of the Next Generation Compilation series, which is available for free download on the Narcolaptic website. The special thing about it is that you can find punk, ska and hardcore bands from different parts of the world from Canada to Japan . In summer 2012 the second part of the series was published. Internationally held like its predecessor only with the small difference that this time also greats like Justin Sane from Anti-Flag , Rodrigo Alfaro lead singer of the Swedish punk rock band Satanic Surfers with his project at the time Atlas Losing Grip and ZSK contributed a song.

In 2015 Narcolaptic wrote music for a short film about the aid organization Viva con Agua .

In the documentary Komunitas , made in 2016 during the third Narcolaptic tour through Southeast Asia , popular people and bands from the local punk scenes can be seen in addition to Narcolaptic. The film was shown in various German cinemas from 2017 to 2018 and released via Prime Video in 2019 .
