Life

Nathan Gray was born on June 15, 1972 in Wilmington , Delaware , USA . Until he was 13, Gray lived with his parents in Newark . His mother worked in a diner and his father was a factory worker . At 13, the family moved to Pensacola , Florida so his father could attend a theological school. When Gray turned 19, the group moved to Maryland because the family's plans in Florida could not be realized. Gray stated in an interview that he was influenced by members of a church during his time in Florida, so for a long time he saw rock music as a sin.

He is married and has two sons and a daughter. He later founded the band I Am Heresy with his eldest son Simon . Gray was a member of the Church of Satan and called himself a Satanist . In an interview with Visions , he said that this was "just a joke and amusing pastime for atheists ."

Career

Nathan Gray on the Rocco del Schlacko , 2012.

In 1994, Gray formed the melodic-hardcore / post-hardcore band Boysetsfire in Newark , Delaware . At the beginning of their career, the group tried unsuccessfully to get a record deal with self-recorded demos. After the first EPs were recorded in small editions and with a minimal budget, the group achieved their first notable success after their first European tour with the album After the Eulogy . With the album Tomorrow Come Today , released in 2003 via Wind-Up Records , the group finally achieved their breakthrough. However, there was a dispute between the musicians and their record company, as they wanted to put an external songwriter to the band's side while writing the pieces. Boysetsfire then switched to Equal Vision Records and Burning Heart Records , which took over the release of the albums The Day the Sun Went Out as a new edition and The Misery Index: Notes from the Plague Years . In 2007 the group separated. They met again three years later, in 2010.

After the band Boysetsfire had left the band in the meantime, he founded the post-hardcore band The Casting Out , which existed between 2007 and 2010 and was supposed to release two EPs and two albums during this period. In Germany , the group was supposed to gain prominence through an appearance in the soap opera Gute Zeiten, Bad Zeiten . Shortly after the band ended, Nathan Gray started The New Recruits , a punk rock band.

In 2011 he also founded the metalcore group I Am Heresy , in which his son Simon also played guitar. In the four years of existence he released an EP with the band with O Day Star, Son of Dawn and two full studio albums with the same name I Am Heresy and Thy Will . The band broke up because Gray wanted to take care of his solo project and Boysetsfire, who have been active again since 2013. His debut EP Nthn Gry was released on August 7, 2015. His solo album Feral Hymns was released on January 19, 2018 , on which he treads new musical paths with acoustic guitars, strings and piano. Following the Family First Festival of his main band Boysetsfire, Nathan Gray plays a few acoustic shows.
