Haparanda Skärgård is a Swedish national park in the archipelago south of Haparanda at the northern end of the Gulf of Bothnia . Characteristic are the wide sandy beaches with an exotic dune landscape as well as species-rich plants and birds.
The nature of the national park was created by a varied interplay of wind, waves and uplift . The largest island in the park is called Sandskär and is about 400 hectares in size. At 8.5 mm per year, the land uplift is still extremely strong today.
