The name Tresticklan means trident and is certainly related to the shape of the Stora Tresticklan lake . Since January 2005 the national park has been classified as a Natura 2000 area under the name Trestickla-Boksjön .

It is about 3.5 km to the Norwegian border ( Bodalsviken ), and the Budalsvika Hut also offers overnight stays. The Tresticklaleden circular route is about 8 km long. At the southern junction Bråtane you can take a short detour to Orshöjden , which at 276 m is the largest elevation in the national park.
