The Swedish Pieljekaise National Park is located about ten kilometers south of Jäckvik in the municipality of Arjeplog in the landscape Lapland . It covers an area of ​​153.4 km².

Pieljekaise was established in 1909 to preserve montane, primeval birch forest in its natural state around the mountain of the same name ( Sami for "ears mountain ", 1133 m). In the southern part of the national park there are several lakes, habitat for numerous char .

Access

The Pieljekaise National Park is away from public roads, the Kungsleden long-distance hiking trail leads from Jäkkvik over six kilometers or from Adolfström over nine kilometers. There is a hut in the park that is also suitable for overnight stays.
