The National Park Fjärnebofjärden located on the lower reaches of the Swedish river Dalälven .
The lower reaches of the Dalälven, which runs through the plains of the northern Uppland and southern Gästrikland , has only a slight gradient in contrast to the upper reaches. As a result, the river expands and forms large, shallow lakes separated from each other by rapids. Fjärnebofjärden is one of those lakes, the surrounding area is surrounded by floodplain, river meadows and pristine forest. Periodic floods that cover large areas shape the nature of the national park. Of the approximately 10,100 hectares that the protected area comprises, water areas take up around 4,100 hectares. The land area includes around 200 islands.
Fjärnebofjärden is also located on the " Limes norrlandicus ", the biological northern border . Northern moorland with coniferous forest alternates with southern deciduous forest with trees such as oak and linden. The bird life in particular is as rich in species as nowhere else in Sweden. Over 100 species of birds regularly nest in the national park.
The main entrances to the national park are at Sevedskvarn south of Gysinge and at Östa. At Sevedskvarn there is also a handicapped accessible circular route. There is a lookout tower at Skekarsbo.
