Scientific service

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Germany, natural science service refers to a group of careers for civil servants who require related training and education . The range of tasks mainly includes official business that requires a degree in natural sciences or mathematics or a corresponding professional training.

General

In the federal government , careers in the natural sciences can in principle be set up in all four career groups ( Section 6 (2 ) FSVO ). In fact, there are only three careers:

Civil servants from the natural sciences are deployed, for example, in the Bundeswehr Center for Geographic Information and the German Weather Service .

Career qualification

The career qualification for a career of scientific services is acquired usually by endorsement. At the federal level, only two subject-specific preparatory services (career training) have been set up: For the middle or higher level scientific service, the middle level ( ordinance ) or the higher level ( ordinance ) federal weather service ( Annex 2 FSVO ).

In order to recognize a career qualification for a career in the natural sciences, a corresponding subject group 04 "Mathematics, Natural Sciences" course according to the university statistics of the Federal Statistical Office or a corresponding professional training is required. These include the subjects of astronomy , biochemistry , biology , biotechnology , botany , chemistry , genetics , geography , geophysics , food chemistry , mathematics , meteorology , microbiology , mineralogy , oceanography , pharmacology , pharmacy , physics and zoology as well as the professional qualifications biology , mathematics and Physical-technical assistant , physics laboratory assistant and technician - biotechnology ( Appendix 2 of the AVwV to the FSVO ).

Since December 22, 2017, the subjects of computer science and business informatics are no longer assigned to the natural sciences service, but to the technical administration service or, depending on the focus, the non-technical or technical administration service ( AVwV to the FSVO ).

In addition to the subject-specific study, a full-time activity of at least two and a half years is required for the recognition of the career qualification, the type and difficulty of which at least corresponds to the activity in an office of the relevant career. A graduate physicist (University), for example, the full-time for two years and six months in science journalist can be converted into the career of higher scientific service only tenured , when the "scientific terms" outweighs the activity. A purely journalistic activity without scientific reference would not meet the requirements ( AVwV to the FSVO ).

For admission to the higher scientific service, instead of a master ’s degree from a university, a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree obtained at a university, in connection with a doctorate or full-time employment of at least two years and six months, can be considered. In the case of admission on the basis of the qualification bachelor and several years of professional experience, proof of a full-time activity of five years is required. The full-time job must correspond to the career of a civil servant in terms of subject area and difficulty of the job of a civil servant ( Section 23 (4 ) FSVO ).

Transfer of careers in a special field

With the entry into force of the new Federal Career Path Ordinance (FSVO) in 2009, careers with a special subject will expire at the federal level. The correspondences ( Annex 4 FSVO ) of the old careers listed below also illustrate the broad range of tasks of the natural science service:
