Lake Nebunu is a protected area in nature and landscape protection of IUCN Category IV biotope and species protection area ( water and bird sanctuary ) in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve National Park . It is located on the area of ​​the municipality of Pardina , in the district of Tulcea , Romania .

By law number 5 of March 6, 2000 and by court order number 2.151 of November 30, 2004, Lake Nebunu was designated a nature reserve of national importance. As part of the National Park Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, he is part of the World Heritage of UNESCO .

The protected area Nebunu Lake is 1.15 km² a relatively small protection zone in the northwest of the Danube Delta, south of the Chilia arm , on the area of ​​the municipality of Pardina . The protection zone is part of the Șontea-Furtuna lake complex and has been a nature reserve since 1990.

Biocenoses adapted to floods developed here, i.e. communities of organisms of different species in a delimited habitat. The protected area Nebunu Lake is important for resting and passing Limikolen and water birds . The lake itself offers a suitable habitat for numerous fish species that are adapted to small lakes with shallow depths.

Here nests, among others, the brown Sichler ( Plegadis falcinellus ), the Purpurreiher ( Ardea purpurea ), the Rallenreiher ( ardeola ralloides ), the Gray heron ( Ardea cinerea ), the Teichhuhn ( Gallinula chloropus ), the Pygmy ( Phalacrocorax pygmeus ), the water rail ( Rallus aquaticus ) and the little grebe ( Tachybaptus ruficollis ).

The Nebunu Lake is home to numerous fish, such as: tench ( Tinca tinca ), river catfish ( Silurus glanis ), European mud whip ( Misgumus fossilis ), crucian carp ( Carassius carassius ), carp ( Cyprinus carpio ), wolffish ( Cobitis taenia ) and perch ( Perca) fluviatilis ).
