Vătafu-Lunghuleț is a protected area in nature and landscape protection of IUCN Category IV Biotope and Species Protection Area ( bird sanctuary ) in the National Park Biosphere Reserve Danube Delta . It is located in the Sulina city ​​area , in the Tulcea County , Romania .

Vătafu-Lunghuleț was designated a nature reserve of national importance by law number 5 of March 6, 2000 and court order number 2.151 of November 30, 2004 . As part of the National Park Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, the reserve Vătafu-Lunghuleţ part of the World Heritage of UNESCO .

The protected area Vătafu-Lunghuleț is located in the east of the Danube Delta, not far from the mouth of the Chilia arm into the Black Sea , on the area of ​​the city of Sulina. It was placed under nature protection in 2000 and belongs to the Roșu-Puiu lake complex .

It has an area of ​​16.25 km² and has been declared a protection zone to preserve the diverse ecosystems (steep banks , small lakes , wetlands , floating and solid reed islands , dunes ).

The reserve Vătafu-Lunghuleţ haven for migrating birds food and a hotbed: Little Bittern ( Ixobrychus minutus ), Pygmy Cormorant ( Phalacrocorax pygmeus ), Gray Heron ( Ardea cinerea ), Purple Heron ( Ardea purpurea ), Rallenreiher ( Ardeola ralloides ) and Little Egret ( Egretta garzetta ).

The lake complex, to which the lakes Iacoib , Porcu , Porculeț , Lunghuleț belong, offers fish a suitable habitat: crucian carp ( Carassius carassius ) and tench ( Tinca tinca ).
