Career

society

Cuevas first played for Paraguayan first division club Sport Colombia and second division club Atlético Tembetary before he was discovered and when he was eighteen he moved to Argentina to join River Plate . He stayed here until 2004, interrupted by a short stay in the PR China at Shanghai International in 2003. With River Plate he was four times Argentine champion. In spring 2005 he moved to Club America in Mexico , but was initially awarded for two years to league rivals CF Pachuca , with whom he won the 2006 Clausura championship. At Pachuca, the striker also had his most successful season personally in 2005/06 with 15 goals in 33 league games for Apertura and Clausura . In the summer of 2006, the loan deal ended and he then played for Club America, where he went goalless for the entire following season. In 2008 he played for Club Libertad from Asunción and the Brazilian FC Santos , in 2009 for CF Universidad de Chile from the Chilean capital Santiago and Club Olimpia from Asunción. In the summer of 2009 he also completed a trial training session with Bundesliga club Hannover 96 during a period of non- membership and was also used in the friendly against Arsenal London . However, there was just as little commitment as two years earlier after a trial session at 1. FC Nürnberg . In the 2010/11 season he played for the Spanish second division club Albacete Balompié and the Mexican club Puebla . From 2011 he was under contract for a short time at the three Paraguayan first division clubs Club Cerro Porteño , Sportivo Luqueño and Sportivo Carapeguá before ending his career in 2012.

National team

Cuevas was in the U-20 selection of Paraguay in 1999 at the Junior World Cup finals , where Paraguay reached the round of 16 despite a 4-0 defeat against Germany, while the German team was eliminated in the preliminary round.

At the Copa América 1999 Cuevas made his debut for the senior national team of his country . He then took both the 2002 World Cup , and at the 2006 World Cup in part in Germany. Although he was only used as a substitute in four games, he scored three World Cup goals in a total of 84 minutes and is Paraguay's most successful goalscorer at World Cups. At the 2002 tournament he scored two goals against Slovenia , which meant progress due to the better goal difference against South Africa . In 2006 he met after presentation by Roque Santa Cruz to 2-0 against Trinidad and Tobago . His team failed in the second round in 2002 against later finalists Germany and was eliminated in the preliminary round in 2006 after losing to England and Sweden. In 2007 he took part in a Copa America for the second time. After the tournament he was no longer used. Cuevas made a total of 41 caps for Paraguay, in which he scored six goals.
