Nelson Jesus Perez (born June 16, 1961 in Miami ) is an American clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Philadelphia .

Life

Nelson Jesus Perez was ordained a priest on May 20, 1989 . From 1993 to 2002 he was director of the Catholic Institute for Evangelization. From 2002 he was pastor of the parish of Saint William, in 2009 he was pastor of the parish of Saint Agnes in West Chester. Pope John Paul II awarded Perez the title of Chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ) in 1998 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on June 8, 2012 as auxiliary bishop in Rockville Center and titular bishop of Catrum . The Bishop of Rockville Center, William Francis Murphy , donated to him on 25 July of the same year, the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Charles Joseph Chaput OFMCap , Archbishop of Philadelphia , and Paul Henry Walsh , Auxiliary Bishop of Rockville Center.

Nelson Jesus Perez is involved in numerous social projects and the Christians in the Holy Land . 2015 he was appointed by Cardinal Grand Master Edwin Frederick Cardinal O'Brien to Grand Officer of the Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem appointed and in the October 31, 2015 St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York by Timothy Cardinal Dolan , Grand Prior of the Lieutenancy Eastern USA invested, .

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Cleveland on July 11, 2017 . The inauguration took place on September 5 of the same year.

On January 23, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Philadelphia. The inauguration took place on February 18 of the same year.
