Neuensee is part of the Upper Franconian municipality of Michelau in Upper Franconia in the Lichtenfels district .

The church village is located about six kilometers northeast of Lichtenfels between the elevations Hohe Aßlitz and Göritzen around the 23 hectare pond of the same name. The lake is fed or traversed by the Sulzenbach and the Biberbach , a right tributary of the Main. The place consists of three parts, the middle village, the district Berg and the so-called Anger. The district roads LIF 9 to Neuensorg and LIF 2 from Michelau to Schwürbitz lead through Neuensee .

history

The first documentary mention was made of the interest income of the Bamberg forest and caste office Lichtenfels am Neuensee for the period 1491 to 1501. During this time, parts of the forest were cleared and fish ponds were created. In 1513, the hamlet “Neuensehe” was named, which belonged to the Bamberg monastery . The Bamberg bishop owned the village, the place was exempt from military and tax obligations and was under the Lichtenfels caste.

In 1571 Neuensee was referred to as “Gestraidt dörflein am neue see”. From 1674 the place with the lower jurisdiction belonged to the center and to the district of the Catholic parish Graitz . At the beginning of the 19th century there were 22 houses, 16 barns and a mill in Neuensee. The village belonged to the Bamberg office of Lichtenfels and was parish after Graitz. A tithe did not have to be paid.

In 1818 Neuensee belonged to the Obermainkreis and was combined with Neuensorg to form a rural community. In 1862, the village was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Lichtenfels . In 1875 Neuensee had 261 residents and 70 buildings. The place belonged to the district of the Catholic parish in Marktgraitz, 6.5 kilometers away, and the Protestant parish in Michelau, 1.5 kilometers away. The Catholic school was in Schwürbitz, 3.0 kilometers away, and the Protestant in Michelau. In 1900 the rural community Neuensee covered an area of ​​473.97 hectares, 634 inhabitants, of which 381 were Catholic and mostly lived in Neuensee and 253 were Protestant, and 90 residential buildings. 358 people lived in Neuensee in 51 residential buildings. The village had its own Catholic school since 1881. A power supply existed from 1912, the first drinking water supply with house connections from 1928. In 1925, 431 people lived in 68 residential buildings in the village. In 1932 the schoolhouse was replaced by a new building. 1950 the place had 494 inhabitants and 66 residential buildings. He belonged to the parish of the Catholic parish Schwürbitz and the Protestant parish of Michelau.

On February 15, 1952 Neuensorg was spun off as an independent municipality from Neuensee. In 1970 Neuensee had 717 inhabitants and in 1987 it had 838 inhabitants and 207 residential buildings with 290 apartments. On January 1, 1978 Neuensee was incorporated into the community of Michelau.

From around 1830 to 1980 the carpet beating trade was practiced in Neuensee as a branch of basket weaving . After the Second World War, the town developed into an industrial community with the construction of the Andreas Hofmann metal goods factory, which filed for bankruptcy in 1981 .

Catholic Church of Mary Queen

In 1908, the Catholic Chapel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was built in the 1902 cemetery based on plans by Fritz Fuchsenberger . In 1928 the community had an organ installed and a restoration carried out. In 1973, a new building as a sandstone block with a gable roof and roof turret followed, based on a design by the Bamberg architect Adam Jakob. On October 13, 1974, the Maria Queen Church was consecrated by the Bamberg Auxiliary Bishop Martin Wiesend .
