The Neugersdorfer Hütte (Italian: Rifugio Vetta d'Italia ) - also Krimmler-Tauern-Hütte - is a refuge and a former customs house in the South Tyrolean part of the Zillertal Alps , about 300 meters south-east of the Krimmler Tauern , an alpine path crossing that has existed since 1919 marked the state border between Austria and Italy. It was built from 1905 to 1907 by the North Bohemian section Warnsdorf of the German and Austrian Alpine Association (DuOeAV) at that time with the help of the residents of the Ahrntal valley . Today the hut is owned by the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, but will be used by the Guardia di Finanza until 2022 .Template: future / in 2 years

Surroundings

The hut ( solid construction ), which was exceptionally modern for the time, is located on the southern slope of the Zillertal main ridge at an altitude of 2568  m , below the ancient high pass. Today it is located near the Austrian-Italian border on the Italian side and lies in the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park in South Tyrol . From here you can see the mountains of the Venediger group . The two largest are the Dreiherrenspitze ( 3499  m ) and the Rötspitze ( 3496  m ).

The Lausitzer Weg , which is described in different ways , leads past the Neugersdorfer Hütte . The Höhenweg actually runs from the Birnlücke to the Hundskehljoch, but is indicated in the compass map 082 as the Kasern-Heiliggeistjöchl-Birnlückenhütte-Kasern circular route .

history

Due to the high influx of people, the Lausitz section, founded in Löbau in 1883, decided to expand its alpine activities and the Lausitzer Weg was laid out. The Warnsdorf section in Bohemia, which is adjacent to the Lausitzers, then planned to build a hut at the intersection of the path with the Krimmler Tauern crossing, because accidents caused by sudden weather changes had increased. The project was financed by entrepreneurs from Neugersdorf and the municipality of Neugersdorf in Saxony. The hut was therefore given the name Neugersdorfer Hütte . In 1904 a lease agreement was signed for the necessary building site and one year later the construction work was transferred to the entrepreneur Johann Eppacher from St. Johann im Ahrntal. The roof was finished at the end of 1906 and the opening ceremony could take place on August 14, 1907, and in August 1910 a telephone and telegram acceptance point was set up for the imperial and royal high post and telegraph offices. The yarn wholesaler Friedrich Ernst Berger (1st section chairman) and the manufacturers Alfred and Arno Hoffmann from Neugersdorf have campaigned for this. In addition, hut warden Arno Hoffmann had a neighboring hut built with table and benches, which was not locked, as well as a stables.

The hut was managed until 1919, after South Tyrol was awarded to Italy as a result of the Treaty of Saint-Germain , the Alpine Club work and its huts were initially tolerated. However, as the German-speaking population and their cultural assets were to be displaced with the rise of fascism in Italy in the 1920s, the hut was expropriated and used as a customs house.

After the Second World War, the hut was looted and fell into disrepair until it was extensively renovated in 1984 and was used again by the Italian customs authorities in order to be able to counter the brisk smuggling industry. After it had been left to the autonomous province of South Tyrol in 2000, the state demanded the return of the hut in 2011, as it was still needed by the financial guard.

Furnishing

The stone building was equipped with generous wood paneling on the inside, and the adjoining hut was also paneled. Six bedrooms with ten beds and a shared bedroom with nine mattress dormitories each divided into three, as well as the kitchen and dining room are spacious as is the cellar. During the renovation, wood paneling was also added again.
