Nikolai Ivanovich Sieber ( Russian Николай Иванович Зибер ; born March 10 . Jul / 22. March  1844 greg. In Sudak , April † 28 . Jul / 10. May  1888 . Greg in Yalta ) was a Russian economist , university lecturer and publicist .

Life

Sieber, son of a Swiss and a Little Russian (formerly the common name for Ukrainians), attended the Simferopol high school and then studied at the Faculty of Law at the University of Kiev ( Imperial Kiev University of St. Vladimir ). After graduating, he worked in the Volhynian governorate as a civil servant who had to settle the conflicts between landowners and farmers. With his work Theory of Value and Capital by David Ricardo with a view to later clarifications , he was sent in 1871 Master of Political Economy and for further training abroad. In 1873 the University of Kiev appointed him as a lecturer at the Chair of Political Economy and Statistics .

When MP Dragomanow was released in 1875 , Sieber gave up his lectureship and went to Switzerland . In Geneva he was the editor of Dragoman's magazine Gromada . He then settled in London , where he met Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels personally in 1881 . Sieber continued to work scientifically and published his articles in Russian magazines and especially in the Russkije vedomosti . Particular mention should be made of Karl Marx's economic theory in several parts, the history of the Swiss commons , the fate of common property in Switzerland , the effect of progress on poverty , the distribution of property in Germany and general economics and law . Sieber showed that Ricardo's theory of value led directly to Karl Marx. He was the first to make Marx known in Russian literature and vigorously defended the central contents of capital against the Russian critics VI Guerrier , BN Tschitscherin and JG Schukowski . His interpretation of Marx differed significantly from that of the narodniki W. P. Vorontsov and NF Danielson and formed the basis for the Marxism of GW Plekhanov and VI Lenin .

In his investigations, Sieber used the work of the German lawyer A. H. Post on comparative legal history.

Nikolai Ivanovich Sieber was married to the doctor Nadezhda Olimpievna Siber-Schumowa .
