Inger Ninni Marianne Holmqvist (born June 24, 1958 in Lund ) is a Swedish writer and translator .

Life

Ninni Holmqvist grew up in Malmö in the south of Sweden . She worked in a variety of professions before settling on writing. She attended writing courses at the adult education centers in Skurup and on the island of Biskops-Arnö near Håbo and at the University of Gothenburg . She lives and works in Katslösa in the municipality of Skurup .

Work and translations

Her first published book was a collection of short stories, which appeared in 1995 under the title Kostym in the Stockholm publishing group Nordstedts. Her first novel, published in 1999 by Nordstedts under the title Något av bestående karaktär , was published in 2004 in a German translation (as Die Verführten ) as a Suhrkamp paperback. Her dystopian novel Enhet , which appeared in Sweden in 2006, has been translated many times, for example into Norwegian (2007 with Damm as Enheten ), Dutch (2007 with Anthos as De eenheid ), English (2008 with Other Press as The Unit ), German ( 2008 when Fahrenheit publishing and 2011 as Fischer paperback as The Entbehrlichen ), Russian classic (2010 at rippol as материал Биологический , revisions under the title Вечернее платье должно быть сексуальным ) and French (2011 Éditions SW Télémaque as L'unité ). In 2010 Holmqvist was awarded the Ludvig Nordström Prize of the Ludvig Nordström Society, endowed with 15,000 Swedish kronor.
