Norman Fickel

Norman Fickel (born March 1963 in Nuremberg ) is a German mathematician specializing in business mathematics .

life and career

Norman Fickel was born in Nuremberg in March 1963 and grew up on Tetzelgasse in Nuremberg's old town and Sebalder old town . In September 1969 he started as a primary school student at the Paniersplatz primary school at the northern end of Tetzelgasse . He then attended the Leibniz Gymnasium in Altdorf near Nuremberg from September 1973 , which he graduated from high school in June 1982 . After his military service in the German Armed Forces , which he spent in Regensburg from October 1982 to October 1983 and graduated with the rank of corporal , he began studying mathematics at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) in November 1983 . He finished his studies in May 1989 with a diploma and then worked from June 1989 to May 1990 in a mathematical research project. During this time, in July 1989, he also married his wife Ute, who is now a senior teacher at the Paul-Pfinzing-Gymnasium in Hersbruck . From June 1990 to December 1993 he did his doctorate in statistics at the WiSo of FAU and received his doctorate in December 1993 as Dr. rer. pole. (Doctor of Economics and Social Sciences).

After completing his studies, he did his first job from January to June 1994 at Vereinte Krankenversicherung AG in Munich , before he was habilitand in statistics and econometrics (Dr. rer. Pol. Habil.) From July 1994 to January 2000 . During this time, from July 1994 to June 2000, he was a research assistant for grade C1 at FAU. His son was born in October 1996. In addition Fickel worked as a research guest on during his time as Habilitand January-March 1998 Babson College in Wellesley in the US state of Massachusetts operates. In November 2000, Fickel, then still a private lecturer , received the FAU's habilitation award . As early as July of this year, he worked as a senior assistant in grade C 2 at the chair for statistics and empirical economic research at WiSo and ended this engagement in March 2003 to teach business mathematics for a few months as a professor in grade C 2 at the Technical University of Berlin ( April to September 2003).

In October 2003 he returned to the WiSo at FAU and was contracted as a teacher in grade A 14 . In March 2004 he was appointed to a professorship at FAU; he is still active in this activity today (as of December 2018). In May 2006, Fickel received, among other things, the University Teaching Bavaria certificate , which it was only possible to acquire at the Center for University Didactics (DiZ) this year . Over the years he published various publications or articles in specialist journals and worked with Otto Hass , whose successor he was on the chair, among others . He also stands out due to his sometimes quite unconventional teaching style and his behavior at lectures. He is also a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Council.
