Parish Church of Notre-Dame

The Catholic parish church of Notre-Dame in Saint-Thégonnec , a place in the commune of Saint-Thégonnec Loc-Eguiner in the Finistère department in the French region of Brittany , was started in the second half of the 16th century and completed in the 17th century. history

The building of the church, which began in 1563, was significantly enlarged in the 17th century. In the middle of the 17th century the side aisles were renewed, in the years 1667 to 1669 the old choir was demolished and the nave was extended to the east. At the end of the 17th century the sacristy was added to the north side of the choir. At the beginning of the 18th century the nave was raised and larger windows were installed. In 1730 the choir received a new equipment. The church was badly damaged in a fire in 1998.

In 1599 the vestibule and the bell tower towering above it were built on the south side of the church. The outer portal of the vestibule is framed by fluted columns surrounded by rings. Stone benches run on both sides of the vestibule, six niches are recessed in the walls on each side, crowned by balustrades. However, only the outer niches are still occupied with figures of the apostles. On the west side you can see the apostles James with the pilgrim's staff and Thomas with the angle, on the east side the apostles John with the chalice and snake and Peter with the key. Reliefs with heads and ornamental representations are carved under the figures of the apostles. In front of the inner portal of the vestibule, a holy water font is attached to the wall, over which the year 1599 is carved.

inner space

The three-aisled nave is divided into five bays . The chapels attached to the nave give the impression of a transept.
