from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gefrees Oberamt was one of the 13 administrative areas of the Principality of Bayreuth with its seat in Gefrees .

history

The seat of the office was originally Berneck. The Burggrafenamt Berneck already existed at the time of the Nuremberg burgraves . In 1427 the Bailiwick Office was relocated to Gefrees, and in 1604 the caste office too . Until 1668 it was under the administration of Kulmbach . Since then it has had its own chief bailiff.

In the 18th century, the Gefrees Oberamt included the offices of Berneck, Gefrees, Goldkronach and Stein.

From 1791/92 the Principality of Bayreuth was administered by the Prussian state as Ansbach-Bayreuth . This means that the Gefrees Oberamt became part of the Wunsiedeler district .
