The Oberamt Schauenstein was an administrative area of ​​the Principality of Bayreuth , which was ruled by a branch line of the Hohenzollern until 1791/92 .

Helmbrechts and Schauenstein were originally subordinate to the Lords of Wolfstriegel . In 1386 they sold their feudal claims to the burgraviate of Nuremberg . The Oberamt Schauenstein was established in 1747. It consisted of the Bailiwick of Schauenstein and the Bailiwick of Helmbrechts. In 1772 it was incorporated into the Kulmbach administration .
