The Kulmbach administration was bordered by the provincial administration of Hof in the north, the Gefrees district in the east, the Bayreuth administration in the south and the Bamberg monastery in the west .

history

Kulmbach originally belonged to the Dukes of Meran. With their extinction in 1298 it came to the Counts of Orlamünde . Through a settlement, Kulmbach came to the Burgraviate of Nuremberg in 1338 and was a burgrave's office there. In their legal succession it became a margravial office. Until 1604 it was the royal seat of the margraves.

The Kulmbach official authority arose during the first half of the 16th century from the "Kulmbach Military District" established in 1498. In 1772 the formerly independent Oberamt Schauenstein with Helmbrechts was incorporated into the Kulmbach administration. Under the Prussian administration of Ansbach-Bayreuth , the office was dissolved and replaced by the newly created Kulmbacher Kreis . The Vogteiamt Stammbach and the Stiftskastenamt Himmelkron came to the Wunsiedeler Kreis .
