history

The place was first mentioned in 1361 as "Oberdornloch" in the land register of the Plassenberg rule. The place name is derived from the hydronym Dornlach. This was used to designate a brook lined with thorn bushes.

At the end of the 18th century there were 25 properties in Oberdornlach. The high court was exercised by the Bavarian Bailiwick of Kulmbach . The manor Oberdornlach held the village and community rulership. The landlords were the manor Oberdornlach (1 tavern, 2 courtyards, 8 estates, 9 Gütlein, 1 Söldengütlein , 2 Sölden) and the Amt I of the Rittergut Kirchleus (1 courtyard, 1 Gütlein).

From 1797 to 1808 the place was subordinate to the justice and chamber office Kulmbach . With the municipal edict of 1811, the tax district Oberdornlach was formed, to which the places Altenreuth , Bärnhof , Höferänger , Höfstätten , Niederndobrach , Rosengrund , Sackenreuth , Unterdornlach , Wadel belonged. In 1812 the rural community Oberdornlach was formed, which was congruent with the tax district. With the second community edict (1818), two rural communities were formed:

  • Oberdornlach with rose ground and calf
  • Unterdornlach with Altenreuth, Bärnhof, Höferänger, Höfstätten, Niederndobrach and Sackenreuth

The administration and jurisdiction of the municipality of Oberdornlach was subordinate to the Kulmbach Regional Court and to the Kulmbach Rent Office ( renamed the Kulmbach Tax Office in 1919 ). From 1862, Oberdornlach was administered by the Kulmbach district office (renamed the Kulmbach district in 1939 ). Jurisdiction remained with the Kulmbach Regional Court until 1879, and from 1879 the Kulmbach Local Court . In 1955, Unterdornlach and Bärnhof were added, while Rosengrund was transferred to the newly formed Höferänger community. The municipality originally had an area of 3.957 km², after the Umgemeindungen it was 6.096 km².

As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , Oberdornlach was incorporated into Kulmbach on January 1, 1974.
