history
The place was first mentioned in 1398 as "Holzmule" in the land register of the Plassenberg rule. The place name means "the mill located on the forest [= wood]". At that time, Holzmühle was under the control of the Burgraviate of Nuremberg and, as its legal successor, the Margraviate of Brandenburg-Kulmbach .
Towards the end of the 18th century there were 2 properties in Holzmühle (1 grinding mill, 1 Gütlein). The high court was exercised by the Bavarian Bailiwick of Kulmbach . The basic rule on the two properties had the box office Kulmbach held.
From 1797 to 1808 the place was subordinate to the justice and chamber office Kulmbach . With the community edict, Holzmühle was assigned to the Kirchleus tax district formed in 1811 and the Kirchleus rural community formed in 1812 . As a result of the second community edict (1818), the place was re-incorporated into the newly formed rural community of Lösau . On January 1, 1976, Holzmühle was incorporated into Kulmbach as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
