The Wunsiedeler Kreis was under Prussian administration one of six districts in the Principality of Bayreuth with its seat in Wunsiedel .

history

The Wunsiedeler Kreis existed from 1797 to 1806. It was formed from the Amtshauptmannschaft Wunsiedel , the Oberamt Gefrees (for the most part), the Amtshauptmannschaft Kulmbach (to a lesser extent) and the Vogtland manors of this area. The district authority was called the district directorate. Justice and administration were separated. The sub-authorities included the Gefrees and Wunsiedel justice offices and the Gefrees and Wunsiedel chamber offices and the Weißenstadt magistrate . The manors were converted into patrimonial courts under Prussian law. On November 2, 1806, the French military government in the Principality of Bayreuth replaced the defeated Prussia. With the Paris Treaty of 1810 , the Principality of Bayreuth - and with it the Wunsiedeler Kreis - came under the Kingdom of Bavaria . The Prussian administrative structures were abolished. They were replaced by the newly created regional courts of Bayreuth , Kirchenlamitz , Kulmbach and Wunsiedel , which were responsible for both administration and justice.
