The Oberpfuhl is a natural lake near Lychen ( Uckermark district , Brandenburg ) in the Uckermärkische Seen nature reserve .

location

The Oberpfuhl is located east of the old town of Lychen about 80 km north of Berlin in the course of the Lychener waters , a left tributary of the Upper Havel . It is assigned to the Uckermärkische Seen and forms together with the Wurlsee , the Großer Lychensee , the Zenssee , the Platkowsee, the Lychener Stadtsee and the Nesselpfuhl the Lychener Seenkreuz, which encompasses the inner area of the city Lychen almost like an island. The lake is surrounded by slightly hilly mixed forests. Near the south-east corner of the northern part of the lake, under the name of Küstriner Bach, the feeding part of the Lychener water flows out of it in two arms, in the middle of the west bank as the mill stream of the historic monastery mill around Nesselpfuhl and on the southern edge of the old town as a passage to Lychener Stadtsee . There is a transfer point at the weir.

Sea data

The 65 hectare lake has a maximum depth of 7 m. The water is very rich in nutrients and has a summer visibility of 1.3 m to 1.6 m. The catchment area of the lake is 143.56 hectares.
It has an effective length of 1.353 km and an effective width of 663 meters. The shortest completely over water connection between the most distant shore points measures more than 1.62 km. history

Since the Ascanian Margrave Albrecht III. Founded the Cistercian monastery Himmelpfort in 1299 , the various rulers fought over possession of the land of Lychen , on which the monastery was located. In the course of the disputes between the city fathers and the monastery over fishing rights, meal rights, etc., Lychen had to build a dam and a weir to the Oberpfuhl in 1408 at the request of the abbot because the monastery mill needed a higher water level. Therefore, the water level of the Oberpfuhl is still more than a meter higher than that of the city lake.

Use, flora and fauna

There are several natural swimming areas on the shore. The Oberpfuhl is surrounded by belts of reeds. The main fish species are: eel , perch , pike , pikeperch . In addition to ospreys , many water birds such as grebes and coots can also be observed. The south and east banks of the lake are located in the nature reserve Küstrinchenbach and Oberpfuhlmoor .

Others

Fishing on the lake is only permitted with a fishing license. Driving on with motor boats is also prohibited.
