history

The place was first mentioned in documents as Albrechsleybyn and Albrechtisleiben around 1264. At that time the place was owned by the Counts of Weimar-Orlamünde . After the Count of Orlamünde died out in 1372, the place came to the Wettin Landgraviate of Thuringia and when Leipzig was divided in 1485 to the Ernestine Electorate of Saxony. The church of St. Wigbert was built around 1500. In the 16th century the place belonged to that part of the Brembach bailiwick , which in 1662 remained with the Duchy of Saxony-Weimar and in 1735 was affiliated to the Hardisleben office. In 1741 Olbersleben came with this to the Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach . The locations of the Hardisleben office belonged to the Buttstädt office since 1817 , which was opened in the Apolda administrative district of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach in 1850 .

During the Second World War , around 300 prisoners of war , military internees as well as women and men from France , Italy , Poland , the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia had to do forced labor . a. on the manor . Alexij Wroschoshenko, who came from Russia, was verifiably a victim of forced labor and died of pulmonary tuberculosis at the age of 44 .

On January 1, 2019, the Olbersleben community was merged with the other communities of the Buttstädt administrative community to form the Buttstädt rural community.

coat of arms

Olbersleben has three motifs in the coat of arms. In the upper part of the coat of arms there is a growing lion on a golden field sprinkled with red hearts.

This figure refers to the Counts of Orlamünde , who at the time of the first documentary mention in the 13th century already had possessions in the community. The Orlamünder lion is described in the literature with a blue tinge.

Since this is a historically older version than the well-known black tinging in the city arms of Weimar and Orlamünde, it is used in the arms.

The rooster head in the lower left corner of the municipal coat of arms picks up on the old seal motif of the municipality, which shows a striding rooster. The golden bunch of grapes in the lower left part of the coat of arms is an attribute of Saint Wigbert . One of the two churches in the parish, which was built in the 15th century, is dedicated to him.
