history

After negotiations with the Hereditary Grand Duke Nikolaus von Oldenburg, Friedrich von Essen began building an equestrian facility in the Rastede palace gardens in 1948. On July 24, 1949, the new "racetrack" was inaugurated. In this first year, 20,000 spectators came to Rastede for the opening tournament. In the same year, on June 28 and 29, 1949, the 1st Oldenburg State Tournament took place in Cloppenburg.

In the following year Jan Noordendorp and Friedrich von Essen organized the 2nd state tournament, which took place on July 15 and 16 in the Rastede palace gardens. Another 20,000 spectators came. From then on, the Oldenburg State Tournament took place annually in the Rastede Palace Park. In the following time, national equestrian greats came to the Oldenburg state tournament again and again, for example in 1955 Hans Günter Winkler (who also started here in 1957 with "Halla"), in 1957 Dr. Reiner Klimke and 1960 Fritz and Liselott Linsenhoff . The successful eventing rider Otto Ammermann was a regular guest at the Oldenburg state tournament. In the eighties the Grand Prix of Show Jumping took place for the first time (at that time with 10,000 DM). In the years that followed, the Oldenburg state tournament was also well-attended, with the show jumping riders including Hartwig Steenken , Alwin Schockemöhle , Paul Schockemöhle , Fritz Ligges , Herbert Meyer , Franke Sloothaak , Michael Rüping , Ludger Beerbaum and Ulrich Kirchhoff .

In 2008 the Oldenburg state tournament was held for the sixtieth time.
