Oli Rubow (born January 30, 1972 in Waiblingen ) is a German drummer . The Frankfurt musician works as a workshop lecturer, book author and live drummer.

Musical activity

Rubow, who has been playing drums since he was ten , graduated from the Hamburg pop course (1993) after graduating from high school (1991 ). Since the end of the 1990s he has been working intensively on the rhythmic aesthetics of electronic and programmed genres. He dedicates himself to the task of implementing the rhythmic charm of DJ culture on the drums, i.e. realizing grooves in the stage situation that were originally programmed.

For this purpose, either the acoustic drums are prepared or expanded with various types of electronics ( sequencers , computers, e-drums , effects devices ). In addition, the rhythm design is oriented beyond the pattern to the formative means of production (e.g. drum computers and sampling CDs), to studio technical tricks of the producers, as well as to the DJ's working methods (e.g. club-suitable tension arc).

In 2007 Rubow's textbook on these topics ( e-beats on the drum set ) was published along with an accompanying weblog. He also works as a workshop author for the German drum magazine drums & percussion .

As a drummer, he tours with various bands from the most varied of styles: Hellmut Hattler's Hattler (since 2000), De Phazz (since 2003), Deep Dive Corp. (since 2004), Wolfgang Schmid 's Kick (since 2006), Henni Nachtsheim (since 2006), Dieter Seelow (1993–2010), as well as with Bürger Lars Dietrich (1998), Marque (1999–2005), El Houssaine , among others Kili (2000), Turntablerocker (2001), Marla Glen (2001), Die Fantastischen Vier (2004), Dublex Inc. (2004-2005). Guest performances with: hr-big band , hr-symphony orchestra , NDR big band .
