history

The pop course was founded in 1982 as a "model experiment for popular music" and was the first course of its kind in Germany. In 1994, the popular music pilot project was renamed Popkurs . The pop course is aimed specifically at artists who, in addition to their authorship, are also active on the stage.

Admission procedure and course schedule

Applicants must submit a resume and recordings of their songs. A panel of lecturers makes a pre-selection from this. A live exam then decides on participation.

The pop course itself comprises two courses of three weeks each, in which the participants acquire background knowledge in addition to songwriting , music theory , singing and instrumental lessons and stage presentations - e.g. B. on music production , GEMA and GVL , artists' social welfare fund , music and contract law . The aim is to equip the participants with the most comprehensive equipment possible for their future life as professional musicians. Each year ends with a public final concert to which representatives from the music and music industry are invited.
