Benjamin "Ben" Schadow (born July 20, 1976 in Lingen (Ems) ) is a German musician , songwriter and music producer from Hamburg . Through his cooperation with bands and artists such as Bernd Begemann & Die Befreiung, Kettcar u. a. as well as known as a solo artist.

Life

Having grown up in Glückstadt , Schadow learned cello, guitar and bass at an early age. He celebrated his first successes with his band dernameistsolangdenkannsichehkeinschweinmerken , with whom he reached the final of the John Lennon Talent Award in 1997 , which Motorsheep (with Birgit Fischer ) won. In the same year he founded the indie pop / mod band Les Garçons, with whom he released two albums and, in addition to various sampler contributions, some singles.

In addition, Schadow was employed as bassist at The Convent from 1998 to 2001 and was involved in the 2003 project: The Electric Family by Tom "The Perc" Redecker , together with their singer Carlo van Putten . Besides them, other well-known musicians played on the record "Ice Cream Phoenix". Bernd Begemann became aware of him at a concert by Les Garçons and after their dissolution in 2003, Schadow became a founding member of the new formation Bernd Begemann und die Befreiung as bassist . He also produced the band's two most recent albums. Together with Begemann and the filmmaker Kay Otto he runs the film podcast Flickerfreunde.

On October 1, 2010, he took part in the band member of Begemann and Dirk Darmstaedter with the Freddy Quinn classic So it goes every night in the Bundesvision Song Contest 2010 in Berlin for Lower Saxony . However, they only took last place there. For the movie Schenk mir dein Herz (with Paul Kuhn , Peter Lohmeyer and Mina Tander among others ) he composed parts of the film music in 2010. With Carsten Meyer he wrote the music for the piece Quijote. Trip Between Worlds , which was performed at the Hamburg Thalia Theater and also worked as an actor.

In 2012 his first solo album was released on the Osnabrück indie label Timezone under the title Liebe zur Zeit der Automaten . He mostly gives concerts with the Ben Schadow Band , which consists of changing members, such as Klee bassist Stefan Götzer (Pele Caster), David Rieken (including live band from Spaceman Spiff) or Tobias Noormann from Mikroboy .

In addition to his permanent activity as bassist and producer for Bernd Begemann, Schadow plays guitar in the Hamburg soul-rock band Rhonda and in 2014 presented his second solo album Dr Eskapismus , on which Ekki Maas from Cologne-based band Erdmöbel participated.
