The John Lennon Talent Award (JLTA) was a funding project for up-and-coming rock and pop musicians that was organized by Itzehoer Insurance from 1991 to the end of 2013 . Itzehoer Versicherungen has been promoting young musicians under the name ITZEtalent since 2014 .

history

Itzehoer Versicherungen organized the first edition of the John Lennon Talent Awards (JLTA) in 1991. Since then, the company has organized the project to promote musical talents with the permission of John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono every two years. The concept of the JLTA came from Klaus Voormann , who had developed it especially for the north German insurance company. Over the years numerous well-known artists from the music industry have been won over for the collaboration. The JLTA was discontinued at the end of 2013 when the head of marketing at Itzehoer Versicherungen and co-founder of the JLTA Rainer Lemke retired.

Under the name ITZEtalent leading Itzehoer insurance on their cultural promotion since, 2014. Similar to the John Lennon Talent Award, you work with established and renowned greats in the music business. The company also cooperates with the pop course at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater .

Selection processes and procedures of the JLTA

The JLTA was aimed at young musicians from all over Germany. Individual artists and bands could apply for participation with their own songs. The selection was made by an expert jury consisting of producers, musicians, specialist journalists and other representatives of the music industry. After the selection, the twelve bands or solo artists took part in various workshop weekends and individual coaching sessions. These were carried out by practitioners from the fields of music and entertainment. As part of these working meetings, varied lectures, seminars and workshops were held, among other things, on songwriting and arrangement, on crafting instruments and voices, on issues relating to performance, staging and dramaturgy, on technical, legal and economic issues, on the area of ​​public relations, marketing and advertising and doctorate as well as on emerging issues.

The JLTA concluded with live public contests at the end of the active funding phase. These took place in renowned clubs in major German cities and gave the bands the opportunity to introduce themselves to a wide audience.

From 1991 to 2013, 200 bands - around 800 musicians - took part in the JLTA.

Awards for JLTA

On September 10, 2009, Itzehoer Versicherungen was awarded the German Culture Prize for the John Lennon Talent Award. In addition, the insurance company was a chosen location in the Land of Ideas with the JLTA in 2010. The prize is awarded annually by the Germany - Land of Ideas initiative and Deutsche Bank under the patronage of the Federal President.
