action

Alexander is 48, has become a pop star and quite arrogant. After a heart attack, he largely loses the memories of the past 10 years. In the music hall of the rehabilitation clinic, Alexander meets Heinrich, an old jazz pianist who wants to enjoy the rest of the time after a stroke. Heinrich takes the increasingly insecure Alex under his wing and, together with old friends, would like to save his former club "Blue Note" from being closed: by performing with Alex. With charm and perseverance, he wins Alex's trust, who only recognizes his long-time manager Silvio and his ex-wife Edda, but not his younger wife Maria, for whom he once left Edda and son Jan.

Heinrich helps Alex with the pitfalls of everyday rehab, after a car accident on the way to the rehearsal in the "Blue Note" and above all with the entanglements in private life that arise after Alex repeatedly shows up at his old family undesirably: Jan is deeply disappointed in his father, Edda wants to get revenge for the fact that she was tricked into divorce, and Maria, who had to struggle with not being recognized by Alex at first, finally leaves him out of jealousy.

Manager Silvio also reacts piqued. He fears that he will be kicked out when he learns about the new band project from Maria, but can soon be calmed down by Alex.

In the end, Heinrich falls into a coma after another severe stroke and does not seem to be recovering. Alex, more and more recovered from former arrogance and also from memory problems, finally arranges his private life and, out of gratitude for Heinrich, pushes through the concert at the “Blue Note” against Silvio, who is concerned about his image. It is broadcast live on the radio and played by Sister Laura Heinrich at the bedside. He wakes up again through the music, smokes a cigarette with Laura and says goodbye to the audience with a wink in the final image.

Reviews

“Despite haunting moments like this, 'Give me your heart' remains a little film, nicely pinned together. The fact that it still surpasses the usual mild homages for well-deserved stars is due to the consistently good cast - but above all to Paul Kuhn and three old fellow players: 'Man, you look really shit', one of them greets him as the old ones greet each other meet for the first rehearsal to give the ailing jazz club 'Blue Note' a boost with a concert. Fifty years of trust, affection and care can be heard in the crude sentence. Paul Kuhn carries the film with it. "

“This film impresses with its lightness, its precision, its grandiose equipment and its love for the characters. Sad and wistful on the one hand, humorous, ironic on the other, he finds an unusually fine balance that captivates the viewer in a charming way. "
