Jens "Zwiebel" Skwirblies (born August 6, 1965 in Uetersen ) is a German musician , keyboard player , music producer and composer .

Life

With the band Feedback , Skwirblies achieved their first major successes in northern Germany. With a mixture of hard rock and German lyrics, the group took part in an NDW band competition of the NDR in 1982 and took second place. She was represented with three songs on the sampler Überdruck , which was released by RCA Records in the same year .

In 1983 Feedback split up and Skwirblies began to work with guitarist Claus Buchholz. During this time the German-speaking rock band Deno was formed . The band won a few talent competitions and later made some television and radio appearances. In 1986 several songs by the band appeared on the sampler NDR Hörfest '86 . Shortly thereafter, Deno broke apart. During this time Skwirblies took lessons from the jazz pianist Rainer Schnelle and studied jazz and pop at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Hamburg until 1989 , pop course .

In the spring of 1989 Skwirblies moved to Kiel and began studying music and English at Christian-Albrechts-Universität . In the fall of the same year, Ian Cussick , the former singer and bassist of the band Lake , was looking for a keyboard player for the planned tour . Skwirblies went to foreplay and got hired. This tour was followed by numerous studio recordings and other concerts with Ian Cussick.

In 1991 Skwirblies began working with the Hamburg company Steinberg Media Technologies , and two years later he played some TV shows as David Hasselhoff 's keyboardist. The following year he opened the Tonart music school in Eckernförde with Claus Buchholz . In 1995 he moved to Rieseby , a place on the Baltic Sea between Schlei and Kiel. Over the years a number of albums have been recorded in his studio , including those for Ian Cussick , Freeze Frame, The Natives and the Remnants.

At the end of the 1990s, Skwirblies joined the cover band Joe Cocker Illusion , which went on tour all over Germany. Furthermore, in 2002, together with his music school partner Claus Buchholz, he composed and produced the official 700th birthday song for the city of Eckernförde . In the following years Skwirblies played various concerts with Bobby Kimball from Toto as keyboard player, including at the Frankfurt Music Fair with the Real Groove Band . A live album entitled "Brand New Live" was released in 2004. In the following years Skwirblies played various tours and concerts for various artists and produced in his studio.

In search of new fields of activity in music, Skwirblies started the first Summer Beach Festival ( Eckernförde Beach Festival ) on the beach in Eckernförde at the end of August 2007 . Headlining the concert with 10,000 spectators was Joe Cocker - this concert was sold out within three weeks. After the festival, Cocker and Skwirblies signed the city of Eckernförde's Golden Book. The Summer Beach Festival series continued in mid-July 2009 with the second festival with Rod Stewart as the headliner and Nik Kershaw in the opening act, as well as 10,000 tickets sold.

At the end of the same year, Skwirblies got the offer to join the band Lake as a keyboard player. After a successful audition, he was immediately engaged and played his first tour with the band in December. In the further course he also played an acoustic tour with Rolf Stahlhofen ( Sons Mannheims ) and the Swedish singer / songwriter Paulo Mendonça .

At the beginning of 2011, Skwirblies performed various concerts with the Hamburg-based singer Katrin Wulff ( Sons of Mannheim , Udo Lindenberg ). This collaboration led to the fact that he took part in Katrin Wulff's second solo album entitled Life and brought it live on stage. In the following year Skwirblies co-produced the new Lake album Freedom , which, however, had to be taken off the market shortly after its release after a dispute with the singer at the time. This Lake album was released under the title Wings of Freedom in March 2014, after complete re-recordings of the lead and backing vocals. The Wings of Freedom tour started with the release and took place throughout 2014 through the most important German music clubs. For the very first time there was a live double CD of this tour from Lake in the Official Bootleg Series from the respective clubs, for the mix and mastering of which Skwirblies was responsible.

In September 2014, the album Live Wings of Freedom Tour Spring 2014 was released, which was recorded, mixed, mastered and in turn co-produced by Skwirblies as a limited edition.

Since April 2016 Skwirblies has been the keyboardist for The Magic of Santana feat. Alex Ligertwood and Tony Lindsay - two original members of Santana .

Jens Skwirblies is the official endorser for Yamaha , Steinberg Media Technologies , Audix and CME XKey keyboards.
