The Eckernförde Beach Festival (also: Summer Beach Festival Eckernförde ) has been a one-day open-air music festival since 2007 with (so far) between 10,000 and around 13,000 spectators on the south beach in Eckernförde ( Sandkrug district ) directly on the Baltic Sea .

history

The Eckernförder musician Jens Skwirblies , who had accompanied Joe Cocker on a Denmark tour in 2005, heard about a concert planned by Cocker for 2007 in Sønderborg and asked him if he could come to Eckernförde right away. Cocker agreed and added Eckernförde to his calendar at the end of his European tour - the first Beach Summer Festival Eckernförde could take place. With 10,000 visitors, the concert was completely sold out weeks earlier. The profit made encouraged the organizer, Jens Skwirblies, to make the event a permanent fixture. The negotiations with Carlos Santana (and the Santana Blues Band ) ultimately broke down the following year, so that the planned event in 2008 was canceled. The commitment of Rod Stewart in 2009, who, according to the organizer, was many times more expensive than Joe Cocker, led to financial losses, even though the entry price was almost doubled, so that the city of Eckernförde had to replenish funds. The press particularly criticized Stewart's “star airs”. According to different information, between around 10,000 and around 13,000 visitors attended the event in 2009.

Under a changed name Eckernförde Strand-Festival , with new organizers (förde show concept GmbH (Flensburg), Franz Betriebe GmbH (Eckernförde), Scherer & Friends GmbH & Co. KG (Hamburg) together), with a new concept and in cooperation with Uelzen Open R went into 2010. A total of eight bands - including Culcha Candela , Die Fantastischen Vier , Ich + Ich - performed in front of around 13,000 visitors. The 2012 festival planned for August 13, 2011 was canceled partly due to scheduling difficulties and partly due to the artists' financial demands being too high; Negotiations were held with Bryan Adams , Unheilig , Juli and Aura Dione , among others .

Security for visitors

According to the applicable safety regulations, the 22,900 square meter festival area is approved for 45,800 visitors. Due to the increased security requirements of the city of Eckernförde, the maximum number of visitors was limited to 15,000 (or 10,000 in 2007 on a smaller designated area) even before the accident at the 2010 Love Parade in Duisburg ; The events in Duisburg prompted the city administration to incorporate the knowledge about the security margins in Duisburg and the positive security experiences of the Wacken Open Air into their security concept . Barrier fences, which still existed in 2007 and 2009, were then completely dispensed with, and six wide emergency exits were created (in an emergency, visitors can also flee to the Baltic Sea or adjacent beach sections and sometimes between the emergency exits); the number of security guards is now twice as high as required at 150, and an emergency doctor staff is also present.

Others

There is already a “tradition”: the rain pelted down at the beginning of the festival at the first three events - but the sun caught on in good time before the main band's appearance. Leon Taylor is the only artist who appeared twice (2009 and 2010) at the festival on the Eckernförde Südstrand; the “road movie” about him was partly created in 2009 at the Beach Summer Festival in Eckernförde
