DePhazz
DePhazz [ ˈdiːfæz ] is a band from Heidelberg .
history
The band was founded in 1997 by Pit Baumgartner as an open band project; The first album Detunized Gravity was released in the spelling “De-Phazz” . Haluk Soyoglu is a co-founder of the band. The name or the word creation "DePhazz" as an abbreviation for "Destination Future Jazz" comes from him. The idea behind it was that each album should represent a journey to a different music planet or style. DePhazz became famous for her radio hit The Mambo Craze from her second album Godsdog . DePhazz initially published his music on Mole Listening Pearls and was later signed to Universal Music Classics & Jazz . The label manager responsible at MLP was Haluk Soyoglu, who signed Pit Baumgartner and then threaded the contract with Universal. Today Pit Baumgartner and Haluk Soyoglu jointly run the Phazz-a-delic New Format Recordings label, which DePhazz has also been on for years.
Most of the albums were released on LP and CD . When the band performs live in clubs and at open-air concerts, there are light and color games, projections and dances. In 2006 the album Big was created together with the hr big band .
style
The mixture of electronically synthesized sounds and various instruments was formative for the musical style of the band from the beginning. DePhazz uses elements from Dub , Jazz , Soul , Trip-Hop , Latin , Drum and Bass , Ambient and R'n'B , among others . Elements of turntablism are also incorporated into the music. Starting with Godsdog to Death By Chocolate , a change in style took place; they moved away from trip-hop and drum and bass and expanded the style further in the direction of soul and latin. From Death By Chocolate the music is generally assigned to the lounge .
Songs by DePhazz have been used in several commercials. The song Anchorless is used in the program Space Night - All-Tag Nachts on Bavarian television . Some songs also parody today's music and entertainment industries .
