Oliver Gerke
Oliver Gerke (born March 26, 1973 in Kassel ) is a German artist , cartoonist and author . Gerke is known, among other things, for his work for the magazine Yps , for which he draws the comics of the series Yps and Co.
Life
Gerke grew up in Fuldatal (district Simmershausen ). At the end of the 1980s he took part in major exhibitions and worked on his first commercial artistic commissions. Gerke initially studied teaching and after completing his legal clerkship in 2004, he studied visual communication at the Kunsthochschule Kassel . After graduating from Jochen Kastrup and Stefan Demary , he was appointed a master class student in 2009 . He then initially worked as a graphic designer for an advertising company and was then recruited by the Fernschulen Institut für Lernsysteme and Hamburger Akademie für Fernstudien (HAF) as head of studies and lecturer in the fields of art , graphics , comics and illustration . He has written various textbooks on behalf of these distance learning schools. These works include books on nude , portrait and landscape painting , composition , comics and a series of school books on art lessons for students from grades 5 to 10.
Between 2013 and 2015 he shot a series of instructional videos together with the HAF based on these textbooks . He continues to work as a freelance artist and publishes comics, since 2015 in the magazine Yps (series Yps and Co ).
Oliver Gerke is a keen musician . He has played guitar in various bands since the early 1990s .
