He is a priest of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and was most recently pastor in Zorneding (Upper Bavaria). He resigned from the parish priest in March 2016 because of death threats against him. Career

Ndjimbi-Tshiende was born in 1949 in what was then the Belgian colony of the Congo as the third of six children of a married couple. He attended the primary school of the missionaries in Scheut (Belgium) in various villages. Then he went to the boarding school of the mission school in Muanda . He attended the boys' seminar in Mbata-Kiela until 1969, where he learned Latin and Greek. This was followed by six years of studying philosophy and Catholic theology at the seminary in Mayidi and at the seminary of Jean XXIII. He received his degree in philosophy from the University of Kinshasa and the University of Lubumbashi in 1976. On August 26, 1979, he was ordained a priest in Muanda, the first of his tribe. This was followed by a water tower project with Misereor in the Makasamba community. He became a lecturer at the seminary in Boma and at the College of Chemistry and Nutrition. Ndjimbi-Tshiende was a prison minister in Boma for five years. Since 1988 he has built an orphanage in Boma.

From 1986 to 2001 he did his doctorate at the Jesuit University of Philosophy in Munich and received a Magister Artium in education (focus on education, psychology and criminology) and habilitation in ethics (moral philosophy, especially ethics of values) at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . From 1992 to 1999 he was chaplain in St. Pius .

In 2001 he returned to the Congo, lived there until 2005, but found no work. In 2005 he returned to Munich for an eye operation and began as a parish administrator in the Archdiocese of Munich. He became a German citizen. In 2007 he was appointed professor by the Congolese Ministry of Education. He teaches in Muanda at the Center spirituel de Muanda . Since 2010 he has been building a medical station in Muanda.

From 2012 to 2016 he was pastor in the parish of St. Martin in Zorneding. Since October 2016 Ndjimbi-Tshiende has been working as a research assistant at the Center for Refugees and Migration at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and helps out as a pastor in the Ingolstadt area .

racism

Ndjimbi-Tshiende repeatedly had to live with racist incidents in Germany. In Munich he was not served in a restaurant as a student. In his first pastoral office in Buch am Erlbach , an employee of the parish said “I don't work under a Negro” and a couple refused to have their child baptized by a black man. In Munich-Milbertshofen there were problems with rampaging young people who were classified as “Christian, national, right-wing”. In Zorneding, Ndjimbi-Tshiende said in retrospect, he was received "well and kindly" by the majority of the population.

During the refugee crisis in Germany , the then CSU local chairwoman wrote in the party newspaper Zorneding Report in 2015 that Bavaria was being "overrun by refugees" and spoke of an "invasion". Migrants from Eritrea in Africa called them military service refugees. Ndjimbi-Tshiende contradicted these statements in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung and, together with his parish council, called on the party to stop using Zorneding's church spiers in its publication. In a conversation with a local newspaper, the then deputy CSU chairman said: "He has to be careful that the Brem [note: retired priest living in Zorneding] does not jump his bare ass in the face of our Negro ." This was heavily criticized nationwide , including from the Archbishop's Office in Munich , politicians from all parties and, ultimately, from CSU party executive boards at all levels, including the local chairmen. The deputy publicly regretted his statement. After massive, nationwide criticism, both politicians finally resigned from their party political offices. Both CSU local politicians spoke to the pastor and, according to Ndjimbi-Tshiende, reconciled with him.

But from November onwards, Ndjimbi-Tshiende received anonymous insults and threats in the mail. In three cases, he filed a complaint that the prosecution investigated. He had received four death threats by 2016. In March 2016, the pastor informed the parishioners about his departure as a result of these attacks. The Archbishop's Ordinariate put Ndjimbi-Tshiende on vacation and he immediately left the place. The resignation of Ndjimbi-Tshiende from his office as Zornedingen parish priest caused renewed media coverage throughout Germany. The Bavarian cabinet and leading politicians from all parties in the district condemned the circumstances that led to Ndjimbi-Tshiende's resignation. An online petition demanded that the pastor remain in Zorneding. Over 50,000 people signed within two days. The non-partisan alliance Bunt instead of Braun organized a solidarity rally in Zorneding on March 9th. Over 3000 people took part. A chain of lights was formed from the Protestant to the Catholic Church .

In June 2016, the police reported the arrest of a 74-year-old man from Munich who was suspected of having written at least two threatening letters. The man was already well known to the police. Since the pensioner did not appear before the Ebersberg District Court on charges of sedition , an arrest warrant was issued against him . A few days later, the fugitive was arrested and sentenced on November 7, 2016 to ten months probation and payment of € 600 to the Munich Association for sedition . Ndjimbi-Tshiende testified as a witness at the trial .
