history

Already in the early 9th century there was probably a wooden church, which was donated by nobles to the diocese of Freising . This was later replaced by a new Gothic building with four altars and 80 seats. In 1719, because of the risk of collapse, Pastor Melchior Brockmayr initiated a new building according to plans by the Grafing master mason Thomas Mayr , who was probably also the master builder. The consecration of the church took place on September 9, 1723rd The interior was renovated and changed in 1843 and 1879. The ceiling painting was renewed in 1923/24. In 1963 the two side altars were removed, the pictures of which are now in the choir . The exterior plastering of the tower was renewed in 1984 and from 1988 to 1990 the church was renovated due to the risk of collapse.

Building description

The church is a baroque , barrel-vaulted hall with a recessed polygonal choir and an attached sacristy . The south 37 m high choir angle tower is provided with an onion dome. The basement of the tower, made of Tuff and Nagelfluh ashlars, comes from the previous building.

Furnishing

Church interior

The ceiling paintings from 1923 were created by Anton Niedermaier from Hohenbrunn and show the Assumption of Mary in the choir and St. Christopher with the Christ Child in the nave , who is taken by Mary . In addition, the Saints Margaretha, Catherine of Alexandria and Barbara are depicted as well as church dignitaries. The ceiling painting above the gallery with Saint Cecilia on the organ is probably a bit older. The cycle of pictures on the gallery depicts scenes from the life of St. Martin and is probably by the painter Kromer from Freising around 1880.

The stucco of the church shows contrasts between floral and geometric, as well as between flat and plastic decor. Presumably this comes from the Zwerger workshop in Schliersee - Miesbacher Raum or from a student of Johann Baptist Zimmermann .

The figures of the high altar date from the time after 1721 and show in the center Saint Martin in the bishop's robe handing a coin to a beggar, next to them figures of Saints Peter and Paul . The Archangel Michael can be seen above, flanked by two angels. The Eye of God above was added in 1923. Next to the high altar there are figures of Saints Leopold and Florian from the end of the 18th century. The crucifix with angel figures on the south wall was made around 1700, the figures of Saints Catherine and Barbara opposite around 1680. The two oil paintings in the Nazarene style of the 19th century from the earlier side altars are installed above the entrances to the tower and the sacristy show the holy Maria and the holy Leonhard over a representation of Alt-Zornedings. On the south side of the nave there is a crucifix with Mater dolorosa from 1720–40. The late Baroque cross on the north side is from 1740. A figure of Mary around 1500 is attached to the left arch of the choir, which was probably later revised. A late baroque figure of St. Leonhard can be found on the right-hand arch of the choir. The Gothic font from the 13th century comes from the previous building and shows the baptism on the Jordan on the top of the lid . On the north wall is the full relic of the martyr Placidus, which was brought here from Rome in 1842 and captured in the Altomünster monastery .

The organ is by Josef Wagner from Glonn . It was built in 1840 and the technology was renewed in 1923.
