In the three finals, only Iron was able to improve slightly. With his new Olympic record , he moved up to third place on the world's best list at the time. For Daniel Kelly and Calvin Bricker it was the performances from the qualification. Bricker won the silver medal in this discipline in 1912 . Fourth was Olympic pole vault champion Edward Cook. The Irishman Timothy Ahearne, who started for Great Britain, took a disappointing eighth place. Two weeks later he reached a distance of 7.57 m. But three days after the long jump competition , he won the Olympic triple jump .
