Ombre di Luci ( Italian for "shadow lights") is a German band that was founded as a duo in 1996 in Osnabrück . She only plays her own compositions on acoustic instruments in a mixture of different styles with Italian texts.

Music and lyrics

Due to the diverse influences of pop, jazz, Latin, polka, folk and chanson, the band describes their musical style with a wink as "Popjazzlatinpolkafolkchansons".

The Italian texts of Ombre di Luci come from the Italians Sergio Grani and the Milanese poet, copywriter and bartender Giovanni Armanni, who was stranded on his odyssey through Europe in Osnabrück and who succeeded Granis in summer 2005. In addition, the Roman Maria di Zio and the singer of the band, Marcus Tackenberg, are now writing some of the lyrics themselves.

The first composition "Ave Maria" is the setting of a prayer that a dying soldier says on the battlefield. The song, composed during the Bosnian War , was performed by the band on the first Sunday of Advent in 2005 in the rebuilt Dresden Frauenkirche , four weeks after the church was consecrated.

For the anniversary of the Varus Battle in 2009, Ombre di Luci composed a piece with a Latin text: "Miles cum persona" (The soldier with the mask). The song thematizes the story of a legionnaire , whose mask archaeologists find 2000 years later, from a new perspective: At the moment of inevitable death, the Roman ponders the sense and nonsense of war and violence and already suspects that his mask will one day symbolize the Will be peace. It is the first track on the band's sixth CD, “Reliquiae” (Eng .: remnants), which was released in April 2009. The remaining seven songs on this album come from the first two albums, "Origine" (1999) and "Vento del Sud" (2000), which were out of print for a long time.

In addition, in the spring of 2010, an album was presented as a commissioned work in Bad Essen, Lower Saxony , which, in addition to some of the band's compositions, also contains children's songs by the former cellist Ludwig Voges, who also wrote the title song "Der Blütenbert", about the mascot of the State Garden Show 2010 , and the end Was replaced by Raphael Rahe in 2017.

The “fake Italians” (the band's own name) produced five more albums themselves: “Ma dove vai” (2002), on which u. a. the Sicilian cantauto Pippo Pollina is also involved, the live CD "In Concerto" (2004) and the fifth album "La Vita d´artista", which was released in June 2008. On their eighth album "Città dei Sogni", which was released on July 21, 2012 on Timezone-Records, Ombre di Luci deal again with typical Italian stories and images, whereby they do not neglect political issues. This is also the case on Ombre di Luci's ninth album, "Cuore d'oro" (Heart of Gold), which was also released on Timezone Records in February 2018. For the title track, the band was able to win none other than Georgian star baritone George Gagnidze as a guest singer .

Appearances

In addition to hundreds "normal" concerts at festivals, in halls, rooms, clubs and restaurants in Germany, the band also played at a number of unusual places, such as in a Russian pioneer camps on the Volga , in the ancient amphitheater of Troy , in clubhouse of the "Contrada della Selva" in the old town of Siena , on a folk festival in the Polish Mazury or in the pavilion of the Catholic Church on the Expo 2000 in Hannover . From 2006 to 2015 the band played annually at the autumn talks of the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung in the house of the Berlin Federal Press Conference . In 2007 she played in the Bellevue palace garden of the Federal President and since 2018 Ombre di Luci have also accompanied Andreas Hoppe , the author ("The Sicily Cookbook") and actor (including " Tatort " commissioner "Mario Kopper") at some of his readings.

social commitment
