background

Various interpreters contributed to the creation of the album. Mention should be made of Jools Holland (on "The Blue"), David Crosby and Graham Nash (backing vocals) as well as Pink Floyd member and keyboardist Richard Wright . Phil Manzanera from Roxy Music supported the production.

Most of the album was recorded at Gilmour's Studio Astoria . The track "Smile" was heard in the documentary Three Men in a Boat before the album was released .

The title "Castellorizon" refers to the Greek island of Kastelorizo . The instrumental was also nominated for a Grammy . The album title On an Island is also inspired by this island. Among other things, he spent a night there, which ultimately led to the song "Remember that night". Gilmour owned a villa on the neighboring island of Rhodes until 2014 .

Special pressings of the album for the US electronic retail chain Best Buy included a bonus CD with the track "On an Island Jam". In Europe this title appeared on the single for "Smile".

In 2006 a second edition of the album with bonus DVD appeared on Gilmour's appearance for AOL Music Sessions with the tracks "On an Island", "This Heaven", "Smile", "Take a Breath", "High Hopes" and "Comfortably" Numb ”can be seen. The DVD also contains a live version of “Astronomy Domine” from Abbey Road Studios from August 2006 and “Take a Breath” from the DVD Remember that Night, which was released in 2007 .
