Ondřej Fiala (born November 4, 1987 in Šternberk , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with LHK Jestřábi Prostějov in the second-rate first division since May 2016 .
Career
Ondřej Fiala began his career in the youth division of HC Olomouc before moving to the juniors of HC Oceláři Třinec during the 2001/02 season. There he developed into a strong attacking striker. During the 2004/05 season he made his debut for the club's professional team in the Czech Extra League.
In the context of the CHL Import Draft 2005 he was selected by the Everett Silvertips in the first round and Fiala switched to the Silvertips in the Western Hockey League in September 2005 . He spent a total of three years in the WHL - during this time he was selected in the second round (40th place) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild . As a result, he took part in several junior training camps ( Prospect Camp ) of the Wild, but a knee injury and three subsequent operations prevented success in North America. So he decided to return to Europe.
In the 2008/09 season he was in the Russian Continental Hockey League with HK Spartak Moscow under contract, but was mainly used in Molot-Prikamje Perm from the Wysschaja League . He then returned to the Czech Republic and was signed by KLH Chomutov . For this he played in the next three years in the second-class first division , at the same time he received regular loan assignments at SK Kadaň . In 2012 he won the championship of the 1st league with the Piráti and thus qualified for the extra league relegation against BK Mladá Boleslav . In this, the pirates achieved promotion to the highest Czech league.
On April 28, 2012 Fiala left the Piráti Chomutov despite this success and joined Orli Znojmo from the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League . Since then he has been one of the strongest offensive players there and regularly plays in the first row of attacks.
International
Fiala played for the Czech U18 team at the 2005 U18 World Junior Championship and scored 2 goals and 1 assist in 7 games.
