The OnePlus One is one of OnePlus manufactured smartphone and was introduced in April 2014 as the first product of OnePlus. The One was developed as an inexpensive alternative to other high-end smartphones and is supplied with the Android distribution CyanogenOS (not to be confused with CyanogenMod ) as the operating system.
Since April 2014, sales have been carried out exclusively via the company's own website.
development
The company's main goal was to develop and offer a smartphone with a comparable quality to other high-end smartphones at a significantly lower price. The decision to sell the smartphone exclusively online via its own website and not in retail stores or other partners contributed to reducing costs.
The OnePlus One was officially launched on April 23, 2014 for a limited release starting April 25. Described as the "flagship killer", the prices for the 16 GB and 64 GB versions were set at € 269 and € 299, respectively. Since the euro has been steadily losing value against the dollar since 2014, the company was forced to convert the dollar prices 1: 1, so that the price was increased to € 299 and € 349 respectively from March 25, 2015. On June 8, 2015, prices were reduced to € 249 (16 GB version) and € 299 (64 GB).
hardware
The core of the OnePlus One is the Snapdragon 801 processor with 2.46 gigahertz , which is also used in the Samsung Galaxy S5 , the LG G3 and the HTC One M8 . It is equipped with 3 GB LPDDR3 RAM, an Adreno -330 GPU and a 3100 mAh lithium-polymer battery , which is firmly glued to the housing and therefore cannot be changed. The housing of the OnePlus One is made of chrome-plated polycarbonate and the back is made of plastic, which is white and smooth in the “Silk White” version, and roughened and gray in the “Sandstone Black” version. Two mono speakers are integrated into the housing on the underside next to the micro-USB socket, and above these are the capacitive navigation buttons, which can be switched to adaptable screen navigation buttons if required.
An IPS-LCD with a resolution of 1080 × 1920 pixels serves as the screen. The rear-facing camera has a Sony Exmor IMX214 sensor with HDR function, which has a resolution of up to 13 megapixels and can record videos in 4K at a frame rate of 30 FPS. The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels and Full HD at 30 FPS. The OnePlus One supports LTE networks with bands 1, 3, 4, 7, 17, 38 and 40.
operating system
The OnePlus One was presented internationally with an Android- based version of CyanogenMod . The smartphone is only delivered with ColorOS as standard in China. An update to CyanogenMod 12S (based on Android 5.0.2) was finally made available via OTA on April 14, 2015 after several delays .
In addition, the “OxygenOS” operating system developed by OnePlus, which is based on Android 5.0.2, was released on April 5, 2015 with some delays, whereby this does not have to be installed via OTA as usual, but manually via files. There are numerous alternative operating systems for the OnePlus One such as B. LineageOS and Paranoid Android.
distribution
Initially, the device could only be purchased with a limited invitation to purchase. This system was adapted in February 2015. The device could now be purchased without an invitation every Tuesday; an invitation was still required for the rest of the week. OnePlus dropped this system entirely on April 20, 2015, making the device freely available.
A total of 1.5 million units have been sold since April 2014.
equipment
The original plan was to sell interchangeable backs made of high-quality materials such as bamboo, Kevlar, denim and various types of wood, but the StyleSwap Covers never went on sale due to manufacturing defects. Attaching it was difficult for laypeople and, in the worst case, could damage the device. Only the back made of bamboo was available for a long time because the company still had some remaining stock.
