particularities

The OnePlus 5 (abbreviated OP5 ) is one of OnePlus produced smartphone . It was presented on June 20, 2017 as the successor to the OnePlus 3 T. In November 2017, the successor model OnePlus 5T was presented. One of the biggest changes is an almost borderless display with an aspect ratio of 18: 9.

distribution

The device could be ordered directly from the manufacturer's website from June 27, 2017 . Prices are € 499 for the 64 GB and 6 GB RAM model and € 559 for the 128 GB and 8 GB RAM version.

In addition to the sale via the official website, there was also the possibility of purchasing the smartphone in a pop-up sale in six European cities (including Berlin) on June 21, 2017 .

Design and technology

The OnePlus 5 consists of a unibody housing made of aluminum and has no removable back. A dual camera was installed that clearly protrudes from the rear. The 3.5 mm headphone jack and the USB Type C port are located on the bottom of the device. The display retains the size and resolution of the predecessor, it is again an AMOLED display with a PenTile arrangement of the subpixels and a full HD resolution. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with an Adreno 540 GPU is installed, which can access 6 or 8 GB of RAM. The memory size is either 64 or 128 GB. At the time of publication, the device is available in either "Slate Gray" (64 GB) or Midnight Black (128 GB).

Fast charge

In the OnePlus 5, the in-house development Dash Charge is used in an improved version, with which the device can be operated with max. 5V / 4A is charged. However, this only works with the supplied cable and power supply unit, as the fast charging function is built into this.

software

The device is delivered with Android 7.1.1 ( OxygenOS 4.5.0). Currently (as of August 2020) the OnePlus 5 can be updated to OxygenOS 10.0.0 (based on Android 10).

reception

The OnePlus 5 was largely positively received by critics and customers, but due to the price increase it no longer has the myth of a flagship killer. Above all, the performance of the CPU, the large RAM and the Dash-Charge quick charging technology are rated positively. Above all, the poor price-performance ratio compared to the predecessor is rated negatively.
