online - my daughter in danger ( working title : Brave New World ) is a German thriller and film drama by the director Oliver Dommenget from 2012. In the lead role , Annette Frier plays the single mother Katja Waiser, who fears that her daughter Jessica (Jessy ) becomes addicted to the internet and may want to meet a dangerous sex offender who is specifically looking for young girls.

action

Katja Weiser works as an accountant in Cologne and is in the middle of her divorce. But not only this fact causes her anger, because her 12-year-old daughter Jessy (played by Jamie Bick ) increasingly spends her time on the Internet. When Katja no longer knows a way out, she deactivates her daughter's internet access and takes her smartphone away from her. In return, Jessy receives a cell phone from her that does not allow internet access. Shortly afterwards everything gets mixed up: Katja's bank account is suddenly completely overdrawn, and what makes it more difficult is that she loses her job. But what's worse: Jessy has suddenly disappeared.

In her helplessness, Katja turns to the local police station, where she finds a competent contact in the policeman Marc Redel who is ready to help her. The investigations reveal that Katja was obviously a victim of fraud, her password at the bank was cracked and thus enabled online purchases in her name that she knew nothing about. Katja fell victim to the Internet itself, of all things, from which she wanted to keep her daughter away.

Jessy meets up with her Internet acquaintance, who pretended to be Chrissy as a woman in the chat and expresses understanding for her problems as a child of divorce. When it turns out that the chat partner is a man, Jessy is insecure and expresses the wish to want to go home, to which her chat partner replies: "You are at home". The film turns dramatic when Jessy realizes she has ended up in the hands of a psychopath who is keeping her in his private rooms. He thwarted several attempts by Jessy to escape. The sick criminal claims to have the same parents, so he is her brother, and says that he is very happy to finally have her back with him as his sister. When he forcibly throws her onto his bed after another attempt to escape and inflicts physical pain on her, Jessy fully understood the seriousness of the situation she got into.

Through the research that has taken place in the meantime, Katja suspects that her daughter is in the back room of a pharmacy. When she enters the shop, Jessy's tormentor quickly puts on a white coat and greets her. After buying headache pills, he urgently warned her never to enter his pharmacy again. When Katja interprets this warning as a clear statement that her daughter is actually in the back room of the pharmacy, she overpowers him with a targeted kick in the crotch and runs back to the pharmacy. After Katja has found her daughter in the pharmacy's basement, they both try to escape from the pharmacy; they are surprised by Jessy's tormentor and a fight begins. In the meantime the police arrive.

When Jessy's tormentor is about to strangle her mother, he is killed after a clear warning from the police with a targeted shot in the back from the police officer Marc's weapon.

The plot ends when Jessy finds a boyfriend her age and Katja goes to the cinema with the policeman Marc.

criticism

The film received mixed reviews. For example, TV Spielfilm judges with a thumbs up (best film rating): “Tearing design, but Frier is convincing, and the tension is right.” The program guide's conclusion is: “Exciting amusement with some weaknesses”.

The film critic Rainer Tittelbach , on the other hand, is a little less enthusiastic: "Despite the subject of internet abuse, the whole thing is a relapse into gaudy TV thriller times". His final verdict is: "The heroine rages, the sound design booms - the holes in the psychology of the psychopath & the outrageous logic of the flashback narrative are still difficult to overlook".

The TV magazine prisma rated it rather negatively with the words: “[... the plot] is in part so untrustworthy and drawn by the hair that the viewer can only be amazed. Screenwriter Timo Berndt has already delivered much better material [...] ”.

The lexicon of the international film sums up with rather neutral words: "Largely exciting (television) thriller on the subject of Internet abuse, but sometimes it is too thick and certainly stirs up existing fears rather than reducing them".

The Berlin subscription newspaper Der Tagesspiegel commented: “Unfortunately, despite a convincing Anette Frier, the in-house production does not go beyond mere clichés”.

The Baden-Wuerttembergische Heilbronner Tageszeitung Demokratie.de notes on its website: "[...] Unfortunately, the approach taken by the alleged Chrissy is not confused and perhaps even more harmless than reality [...]".
