The Waldhufendorf Ortelsdorf was mentioned in 1350 as "Ortlibistorf". In contrast to Gunnersdorf on the eastern side of the Zschopau, which belonged to the Frankenberg-Sachsenburg office , Ortelsdorf on the western bank of the Zschopau was temporarily under the lordship of the Lichtenwalde manor or, as an official village, directly to the Lichtenwalde electoral office , which was managed by the Frankenberg electoral office from 1696 -Sachsenburg and from 1783 by the Electoral Saxon or later Royal Saxon Office Augustusburg was administered. After the end of the Saxon constitution of offices in 1856, Ortelsdorf was under the jurisdiction of the Frankenberg court office and, from 1875, of the Flöha administration .

On July 1, 1950 Ortelsdorf was incorporated into Gunnersdorf. As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the municipality of Gunnersdorf with its Ortelsdorf district initially became part of the Flöha district on July 25, 1952 , but on December 4, 1952, it was renamed the district of Hainichen in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ) affiliated. On October 1, 1961, Gunnersdorf and Ortelsdorf were incorporated into Frankenberg.
