history

Altenhain
Building in Altenhain

The Waldhufendorf Altenhain was founded in the course of the German settlement in the 12th century. The first mention in a document was in 1378 as Aldinhain .
The place name indicates that the village has been around for longer than a recent foundation. Altenhain has always been parish to Flöha .

With regard to the manorial rule, Altenhain was under the Sachsenburg Castle after 1551 , which was owned by the Lords of Schönberg . The hereditary court, which dates back to the Middle Ages , was bought by Wolf von Schönberg for 1500 guilders in 1576 . This turned the property into a Vorwerk . In 1610 Altenhain came with the Amt Frankenberg created by the division of inheritance through the sale of the Lords of Schönberg to the Saxon Elector Johann Georg I. In 1633 the offices Frankenberg and Sachsenburg were combined to the Amt Frankenberg-Sachsenburg . Altenhain was run as an administrative village in 1764 . After the Vorwerk Altenhain had passed into the possession of the Saxon royal family, it was leased to the administrator in Frankenberg . In 1814 the office of judge was in the hands of an electoral judge, while the inheritance tavern continued to exist. At the beginning of the 19th century Altenhain had 6 farms, 3 gardeners and 20 houses, in which 163 people lived.

Until 1856, Altenhain belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Frankenberg-Sachsenburg . From 1856 the place belonged to the Frankenberg court office and from 1875 to the Flöha district administration .

With the second district reform in the GDR , the Altenhain community became part of the Flöha district in the Chemnitz district (renamed Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Flöha from 1990 onwards .

On January 1, 1994 Altenhain was incorporated into Frankenberg. This resulted in the reclassification from the district of Flöha to the district of Hainichen , which was added to the district of Mittweida in the same year and in 2008 to the district of central Saxony. Only the "An der Finkenmühle" settlement remained in the Flöha district and was reclassified to Flöha on January 1, 1994 . For many years the Altenhain community has sponsored a company of the Bundeswehr at the Wettin barracks in Frankenberg / Sa. A highlight of every year is the "Altenhainer Hexenfeuer " on April 30th, which took place in its 20th edition in 2013. It is not uncommon for over 1000 spectators to appear, which is almost five times the population of the village.
