Born in Kirkuk , Iraq , Rashid came to the Netherlands in the late 1990s. There he started playing football at Noord-Hollandse ZOB in 1998 and joined the youth team at Feyenoord Rotterdam a year later . He played for over a decade in the youth academy of the traditional club and was part of one of the most promising years in the club's history. His teammates were, among others, the same age Stefan de Vrij , Jordy Clasie , Bruno Martins Indi and Luc Castaignos . After he reached the age of majority, Feyenoord offered him no professional contract and he left the team after twelve years.

After his release, Rashid moved to FC Den Bosch in the second-class Eerste Divisie for the 2011/12 season . After twelve missions in which he was able to score two goals, he left Den Bosch at the end of the season.

In 2012, the coach of the Iraqi senior team, Wolfgang Sidka, arranged a Rashid trial at his former club Werder Bremen . After a test match with the U-23, in which he scored a goal, he also trained with the Werderaner professional team . After a promising unit, the club offered him a contract, which, however, did not materialize in the end due to excessive transfer demands from his youth club Feyenoord. However, Feyenoord could not have made any more claims at this point because they had not renewed his contract. After his failed move to the German Bundesliga , Rashid announced that he could now concentrate on his sports science studies.

For the 2012/13 season he moved to the third division Excelsior Maassluis . There he scored five goals in 20 league appearances and left the club after the season. His next stop was the amateur club Alphense Boys , which was playing in the fifth division at the time. In two years he was used in 34 games and scored 15 goals.

For the 2015/16 season he moved to the Portuguese LigaPro for SC Farense . For his new club, he played his first game on August 8, 2015 in the 0-1 away defeat against Académico de Viseu FC . He scored his first goal on September 12 against Sporting Covilhã . In missions he netted six times and prepared another goal.

After the season he received an offer from Lokomotive Plovdiv from the highest Bulgarian league , which he also accepted. He made his debut on September 10, 2016 in the 2-5 away defeat by Slavia Sofia . This game was Rashid's first ever in a country's highest division. However, he was unable to acclimate himself in Bulgaria and left the club in January 2017.

On January 24th he returned to Portugal. The second division CD Santa Clara secured the services of the midfielder . He made his debut for the Azores club on February 12 against Gil Vicente FC . Just three days later, he scored his first goal in a 2-0 win against CD Cova da Piedade . In his first season in 2016/17 wearing the Santa Clara shirt, he made a total of 17 appearances in which he scored three goals and prepared one. The LigaPro 2017/18 started brilliantly for Rashid. In the first four games of the season, which were all won, he scored once each. He rose to the undisputed regular player in central midfield , but he injured himself in late January and was three months out. At the end of the season he was back in the field and prepared two goals in the 3-3 draw against Nacional Funchal . In the battle for promotion he scored two important goals in the games against FC Famalicão and UD Oliveirense . He also scored a goal against Académico Viseu on the last day of the match. The game was lost 1: 2, but with 2nd place they achieved promotion to the Primeira League . He was able to take the good form from the previous season with him into the first division. He prepared one goal each against SC Braga and Portimonense SC and scored two goals in the 4-2 home win over Boavista Porto . His free-kick for the 3-1 lead in the meantime was voted September's Goal of the Month in the Primeira Liga. In the 2018/19 season he scored seven goals in 25 league appearances and prepared six more. He also led his team onto the pitch as captain in most games.

National team

Rashid came to the Netherlands as a child and was therefore eligible to play for the Dutch U-17 national team. For this he played eleven times in which he was able to score two goals. He also took part with the U-17s in the U-17 European Championship in Germany , which advanced to the final against the hosts . The final, in which Rashid was on the pitch for the full playing time, was lost 2-1 after extra time. He also played two games for the U-19s .

In 2012, Osama Rashid was part of the Iraqi senior team for the first time as part of the qualifying game for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil against Japan . In the 0-1 away defeat, however, he was not used. He made his debut for his home country in the 6-0 defeat in the friendly against Brazil when he was substituted on in the closing stages. He also took part with Iraq in the 2015 Asian Cup in Australia . There they failed in the semi-finals at the later runner-up South Korea .
