Oscar / Best Screenplay
Even at the first Academy Awards in 1929, films with a particularly good script were awarded for it. A distinction was made between an adapted script and an original story. In the following two awards (both in 1930) the subdivision was dispensed with and awards were only given for the best script ( best writing ). These two awards are the subject of this article. At the 1931 Academy Awards , they found their way back to the 1929 split and continued until the 1940 Academy Awards . At the Academy Awards in 1941 , the Best Original Screenplay category was also introduced . The 1957 Oscars were to be awarded for the last time in the Best Original Story category, so since the 1958 Oscars have been limited to the categories of Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Screenplay .
