Otto Leodolter (born March 18, 1936 in Mariazell ) is a former Austrian ski jumper .
Career
In 1952 Leodolter took first place in the Styrian championships in the relay race, from 1954 Leodolter started for SC Zell am See , from 1954 to 1964 he was a member of the Austrian national team .
Leodolter made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament 1954/55 with a 33rd place in Innsbruck . Shortly afterwards he was tenth in Bischofshofen . In the Four Hills Tournament 1955/56 he started with the 31st place in Oberstdorf and 19th place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , before he finished the tour in eighth place overall after a 15th place in Innsbruck. He thus qualified for the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo . The 19-year-old finished jumping from the normal hill with the same points as Józef Huczek from Poland in 30th place. On the second day of competition (March 10, 1956) during the ski flying week on the Kulm , he came in sixth.
At the Four Hills Tournament in 1957/58 he was able to improve again and after good results reached sixth place overall. He achieved this placement a year later at the Four Hills Tournament in 1958/59 . A year later, at the Four Hills Tournament in 1959/60 , he was second on the podium twice in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen and ended up third in the overall standings. A few weeks later Leodolter achieved by winning the bronze medal at the Olympic Winter Games 1960 in Squaw Valley in jumping from the normal hill on February 18, 1960. He was the first medalist at the Olympic Winter Games for Austria in this discipline.
In December 1960 he started the Four Hills Tournament 1960/61 with a third place in Oberstdorf . In Garmisch he narrowly missed the podium in fourth place, but was again able to achieve a place in the top three in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen. In the end he was in second place in the overall standings behind the German Helmut Recknagel . It was his most successful tour, which he could not build on in the episode. He made his last tour in the 1963/64 season.
At his third Olympic Games, the 1964 Winter Games in Innsbruck, he clearly missed a repeat of his success from 1960 as 28th on the normal hill and 17th on the large hill. It was also the last international competition of his career.
In 1999 Leodolter was invited to the Holmenkollen Games, at a reception with King Harald he was informed that he had set a hill record of 71.5 meters in 1959.
After his retirement, Leodolter devoted himself extensively to his great hobby, gliding. He has received numerous awards for his flying achievements.
Leodolter's son Otto Leodolter junior became director of the Upper Austria State Ski Association in 2012.
