Otto Karl von Parseval (born March 18, 1827 in Zweibrücken , † March 12, 1901 in Munich ) was a Bavarian infantry general and prince educator in the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg .

Life

origin

Otto von Parseval came from an originally French noble family that was enrolled in Bavaria in 1816 . He was the son of Bavarian Major General Ferdinand von Parseval (1791-1854) and his Irish-born wife Franziska (Fanny), née O'Hegerty (1797-1881). His brothers Maximilian (1823–1902) and Ferdinand Jakob (1829–1919) were also Bavarian generals, while his brother Joseph (1825–1887) was a Bavarian civil servant and chamberlain. The latter is the father of the famous inventor and airship August von Parseval (1861–1942).

Military career

After his training in the cadet corps Parseval, the example of his father came follow, on 17 August 1845, the Junker in the Infantry Regiment body of the Bavarian army one. In 1846 he moved to the 2nd Infantry Regiment as a sub-lieutenant . In 1859 Parseval was promoted to captain . As a company commander Parseval took part in the war against Prussia in 1866 and took part in the battles in Kissingen , Helmstadt , Uettingen and Roßbrunn .

In the war against France in 1870/71 he served as a major in the general staff, in 1872 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , and in 1873 he became battalion commander in the 2nd infantry regiment. In 1875 Parseval was appointed commander of the infantry body regiment, in 1876 he was promoted to colonel and in 1881 to major general . Eventually he became commander of the 3rd division , adjutant general to the king and as general of the infantry, commanding general of the II Army Corps .

Parseval was a Knight of the First Class of the Bavarian Military Merit Order and wore the Iron Cross First Class from 1870, as well as the Mecklenburg Military Merit Cross, Second Class from 1870. He wrote several military books, the best known of which is the Guide to Teaching Infantrymen of the Royal Bavarian Army is.

After his marriage, Parseval was on leave from the Bavarian military for a long time from 1861 and acted as educator of Princes Friedrich August (1852–1931; later the last Grand Duke) and Georg Ludwig (1855–1939) at the Oldenburg court.

family

Parseval married in Oldenburg in 1861 Cäcilie von Rennenkampff (1834–1913), daughter of the late grand ducal Oldenburg court marshal Alexander von Rennenkampff and his wife Karoline von Dalwigk . The connection resulted in three daughters who did not continue the family line.
